I’m writing to express my thanks and appreciation for your instrumental programs, in particular violin. My son William Cooper-Fillios has been studying violin with Joanna Fairs-Wu since he was five. William is now 12 and spent the summer playing with the Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO) in their summer Symphony. I want to pass on my thanks for how well NECOM’s ensemble program, approach to music, and Joanna in particular, prepared William. When he auditioned for SYO we thought he would be out of his depth next to Sydney musicians. Instead William found he not only kept up, but he was better prepared than many of the students (and was the youngest player).
William's preparation is all thanks to NECOM and to Joanna. The way NECOM’s instrumental program is structured has enabled William to grow into a musician, to become someone who enjoys playing music with others and takes great joy in making music together. NECOM continues to be one of the best things - if not the best thing - about Armidale and I wanted to let you know how well Joanna and NECOM's program has prepared him.
