Advanced Ensembles

Overview

NECOM Advanced Music Ensembles provide experienced musicians with the opportunity to refine their ensemble and instrumental skills, deepen their ability to respond to conductor direction, and explore sophisticated repertoire.

Students collaborate in a dynamic and challenging musical environment that fosters artistic growth and ensemble excellence.

Armidale Youth Orchestra (AYO)

A 50-member symphony orchestra for players aged 12 to 20 years.

Entry is by audition (Winds AMEB Grade 3 / 4+ and Strings AMEB 5+).

Rehearsals take place at the Armidale Teachers' College each Tuesday during school term at:

4:00pm - 5:15pm immediately followed by;

5:15pm - 6:00pm AYO Strings Sinfonia or

5:30pm - 6:30pm New England Wind Ensemble (NEWE)

Con Brio

NECOM's adult string ensemble provides and invaluable opportunity for adult musicians who want to renew their playing skills in a supportive and non-competitive environment with other like-minded people who just love playing music.

Rehearsals are led by Joanna Fairs-Wu, NECOM Head of Strings and take place at the Armidake Teachers' College each Tuesday from 7:00pm - 8:00pm.

There are also concert performance opportunities annually.

New England Wind Ensemble (NEWE)

NEWE provides an opportunity for wind, brass and percussion players to perform repertoire specifically written for symphonic wind ensemble.

This ensemble provides for emerging wind, brass and percussion players to bridge the gap in technical standard between AYWE and AYO.

Rehearsals are led by Paul Marshall, NECOM Head of Woodwind, and take place at the Armidale Teachers' College each Tuesday from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

There are also concert performance opportunities annually.
