Choral Program

Overview

Established in 2004, our award-winning Children’s and Youth Choirs Program has a reputation for excellence in choral training for young people and continues to achieve impressive outcomes.

More of our choristers win places in the prestigious Gondwana Choirs National Choral School than from any other regional centre in Australia.

We offer a range of choirs to match a child’s age, performance skills and vocal maturity.

Entry is open to all young people, there are no competitive auditions.

Every child has a voice, and every child is welcome.

Minisingers

Minisingers is the perfect introduction to music, singing and performance for children in Years K – 2 and is ideal for young children wishing to learn an instrument in the future.

Singing in a fun and friendly environment with others helps every young person develop their confidence, self-esteem, communication and social skills.

There are lots of fun action songs and musical games which develop skills in pitch and rhythm, concentration, co-ordination and memory.

Minisingers rehearsals take place at the Armidale Teachers’ College each Wednesday of the school term, from 4:00 – 4:45pm.

Jazz Vocal Project

The Jazz Vocal Project, led by Sharny Russell, blends traditional choral techniques with jazz repertoire and a wide variety of vocal stylings.

With Sharny’s extensive jazz expertise, the program allows participants to explore complex harmonies, rhythms, and to experience some improvisation and scatting possibilities.

In addition to performing in the Armidale Eisteddfod, the project has performed alongside jazz greats like Emma Pask and Nicki Parrott, showcasing the synergy between vocalists and instrumentalists.

These performances, featuring a mix of classic and contemporary jazz, celebrate the joy of music-making and leave lasting impressions on both singers and audiences.

Jazz Vocal Project Rehearsals take place at the Armidale Teachers’ College each Monday of the school term, from 5.15pm – 6:15pm.
